Although searching the web
invariably involves more typing than clicking you can still give your fingers a
rest by using Chrome’s new OK Google’ voice-search feature. First, you’ll need
to go into Chrome’s Settings, click ‘Show advanced settings’ and, in the
Privacy section, select the option ‘Enable ‘OK Google” to start a voice
search’.
Now, when you go to the Google homepage or open a new tab in Chrome,
you’ll be able to trigger a voice search simply by saying “OK Google and
speaking your search query. Unlike Google’s standard voice’ search function, OK
Google doesn’t just look up the words you say, but responds directly to
commands and questions, such as “Find me a recipe for scones” or “Who won the
World Cup in 1982?”. If the feature doesn’t work, try installing the Google
Voice Hotword Search extension (bit.ly/okgoogle352), which does the same thing.
