If a program can't be seen, it’s less likely to
be used, so removing software from the Start menu or Start screen is a handy
way of restricting what can be accessed on your PC. Each user has private and
public Start menu items, and by moving items from the public or other users’
private menus to your own private menu will hide them so that only you can see
them.
Open Explorer and go to:
C:\Programs\ProgramData\Microsoft\
Windows\Start Menu
Move items you want to hide to
your own private Start menu at:
C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start
Menu
You’ll need to show hidden files
and folders, so in Windows 7 press Alt in Explorer and select Tools, Folder
Options, View, ‘Show hidden files and folders’.
In Windows 8, this setting is on
the View tab in the ribbon. Also move Desktop shortcuts from
C:\Users\Public\Desktop to C:\Users\YourName\Desktop.
